Faith

She told me

She told me

You can write a poem

About anything

Anything but a tick

I didn’t believe her

Until now, with a rash

On my belly, the engorged tick

Removed and squished

My blood already inside it

My blood already kissed

By the tick, my body

Already sick with the fear

The Fear of what may come

Come with this

This unwanted dangerous kiss

She told me

She told me

She could never love a kiss of a tick

I didn’t believe her until now

I thought I could love anything

That is poetry for me

The paying attention and being amazed,

The being in love with everything,

Everything it is to be alive

The prayer inside the poem,

My bow and surrender to ALL-that-Is

How can I love the fear now in my blood

How can I live with the uncertainty?

In surrender to this

In surrender to this new day

In surrender to Whatever moments

of darkness and light that may come

How can I live with the uncertainty?

Live with The Moments of Darkness

and light that WILL come

To this I am certain

To this I know

This fear already in my blood

This hope already in my blood

This gratitude already in my blood

This love swimming everywhere in me

She told me

She told me

Yet The prayer inside this poem

Perhaps my most surrendered yet

To this FAITH already in my blood
