Conversations with doG
Talking to my rescue dog
Out loud in the forest
In a wonder of the fog
A mysterious outburst
What began as awkward
A daily spiritual practice
To speak audibly to God
Pursuant order of service
Conversations with dog
Starting quite prescriptive
In vocalizing my prayers
When words were elusive
Yet in time I softened
I dropped on through
As if a trap door opened
Or my sound as smoke up a flew
Words flowed on whirls
Wisps of tongue turning
Like riding shimmers twirl
Or licks of fire burning
And here with my dog
I’m feeling his response
Soul creature of no words
Yet palpability of alive Silence
His conversation with me
Expands to hold surround
Language of tree, earth, sea
My words meet the profound
What began as awkward
A daily spiritual practice
To speak audibly to God
Now reflexive divine service—
Our Origins written unscripted
My devotion, a manner of being
Becoming a State of Poetry—
In wordless unknowable seeing
Unscrolls my Poetry as Prayer
