Alive
We didn’t know…
And Yet we knew
How precious this moment
How profoundly true
We didn’t know…
And Yet we knew
How joyful this aliveness
How profoundly true
We didn’t know…
Yet we knew
How fleeting life is
How profoundly true
We didn’t know…
This would be our last time together
And Yet we knew
to inhale it all in so deep,
Into our center
As if our life could ONLY do this
As if our mama lungs knew
With each Inhale, exhale repeat
Our children’s breath wouldn’t last
Wouldn’t keep
That all their bodies would grow, change,
With miracle of every cell replaced
they would all leave us—
if not in death, then in life
Only love stays
We didn’t know…
And Yet we knew
