Awakening
Only one block wander walk
Down to shore of sea
Sounds of Aliveness penetrate me
As if I am their instrument of morning here
Sacred cacophony stimulating my skin
Composing hope, playfully
on my heart strings within
I am stepping, placing footprints
on damp ground, intentionally with care
Yet entering fields of singsong air
As if I too hover & glide, taking flight
Flocking with dawn’s musicality of insight
Orchestra of dark-eyed juncos,
red-winged blackbirds,
spotted towhees
Warming up the way of Life’s stage
Bands of sparrows, Song sparrows,
Golden & white crowned sparrows
Practicing for endless possibilities
Choir of starlings, house finches
Canada geese, pine siskins
Rehearsing prayers in
the rafters of todays cathedral
Chorus of house wrens, crows,
killdeers, glaucous wing gulls
learning & returning to the Sun’s refrain,
Welcoming this new day!
With one lone voice from up high
Eagle soaring on thermals tones
Tapping questions into my bones
Who writes the songs of today?
Who plays the music of morning?
Who rejoices life’s infinite cocreativity?
All who sound here with hope
All who play here with joy
All who listen here with love
All who flock here in the singsong field—
The resonant field of Awakening
*used Merlin app to listen for one minute on walk to beach, identifying all the birds singing in this poem except for the eagle up high
