Evolution of Seeing
Atmospheric blur of morning light
Forgives my middle aging eyes’
Insidious fuzzing of the crisp edges
As if the universe is compelling me
To look up more now, off the page
To look up at the muted & miraculous
Light of each new day
To only look up at the hazy blended
layers of sky, mountain, water
Forgiving me for all the years
I didn’t look down;
All the years I didn’t write or read much
As I took in the beauty all around me
in silence with awe
Breathing in the light with my eyes
As if seeing was my oxygen,
The vital source of my aliveness
In my atmospheric perspective**
Of middle aging eyes—
The illusion of distance is my clarity
All that is seen and unseen
is right here now; without separation
In the atmospheric blur of morning light
All is close, all is forgiven
Blessed be my evolution of seeing
**atmospheric perspective
(noun) an artists technique in which illusion of depth is created by painting more distant objects with less clarity and with a lighter tone.
