Cupping

Inspired by octopus tentacle by Melissa Bixby sacralocean.com

Cupping the surfaces

of this life of impermanence

Holding close for moments of contact

As if the contact creates a holy bridge

Of stability in the mobility

In the eternal cosmic dancing

As if the cupping creates a divine union

And we remember for these moments

that we’re aren’t alone, that we belong

Human feet have more neurons than our tongues,

kissing the ground in our steps

Connecting our bodies to body of earth

To the permanence of the continuum

of Life beyond ourselves

Cupping the surfaces

Of this life of impermanence

Holding close for moments of sensation

As if the sensations create the knowing

Of intimacy within the infinite

Octopi chemotactile sensors

touch, taste, see with more receptors

than human tongue, Kissing with

their suckers into belonging to sea of life

Cupping the surfaces

Of this life of impermanence

Holding close for moments of sensation

Cupping, sucking, kissing, nursing,

attaching for moments to remember

That we aren’t alone, that we belong

To the continuum of Life beyond ourselves

Sensations of union

without words, beyond time

As I remember still yet

the cupping of my mamas hands in mine

After she had lost her memory,

After she had lost her words,

After I became her keeper

In the cupping of her hand gripping mine

with song, with essence of love,

with the intimacy forming a holy bridge

Within the horrifying impermanence

To the permanence of the continuum

of Life beyond ourselves

Cupping the surfaces

Of this life of impermanence

Holding close for moments of sensation

Even as I cup my own hands together

alone here in this moment

With attention to sensations

With intention of compassion for all beings

With awareness of the precious impermanence

Reveals sensations of belonging

to the continuum of Aliveness,

Unity within interdepenDANCE

Long after I am done cupping…

Long after my last dance upon the earth…

Long after my last kiss with Life…
