Soulmates

It is our work

To love

Our only work

To love this world

To expand our circles

Into evermore widening

Circles of compassion

Like reverberations of rain

On the Spring afternoon lake

To love this world

Into the grandest version of itself

Yet to love this world

Just as it is standing still

In amazement of this moment

It is our work

To stand our hearts still

In communion with

Being alive,

Being alive with our soulmates

Like THIS hummingbird

Hovering right here

Before our eyes

Our Hearts standing still,

Yet expanding in circles

Into evermore widening

Circles of compassion

Like reverberations of her wings

in the Summer morning air

It is our work to love this world

So full of soulmates

To help us with our work

Like this tide today both

Pulling on our hearts,

Pulling out into ever more expanding

Circles of compassion,

And pushing our hearts still

To THIS moment

Like reverberations of a musical chord

Played with three fingers held still

Yet the notes keep moving us through time

In the Fall evening of beach

And thank you to this friend’s grief eyes

Moving our hearts to absolute stillness

Yet expanding our love beyond—

In communion with being alive

Even under the Winter night’s heaviest blanket

Like reverberations of a long exhalation

It is our work

To love

Our only work

To love this world

Thank you to our many soulmates—

This work to love

That we never do alone

For Evermore
