Chapel
“From the wilderness”
The elder traveler shared
From whence she came
living on the edges of 83
58 years married…
Pondering for herself
what is the throughway
of Still…
Still married now
After moving, wandering
The Wilderness with same
Said human she did wed
Two years shy of 3 scores ago
She did not provide any answers
For her own life,
her wistfulness of voice
Changed the channel to
Sharing Her children’s path—
Two now divorced
One never married
I filled in the empty space
Of her silent reflective longing
Still, never, or once married
The throughway is the same
I offered,
A bit by choice,
A bit by chance
And we may never know
Which parts are which
Only that we dance with both
This wedding chapel
In the wilderness of South Africa
Is open air year round
Under the arc of sun
Over the reflection of water
Surrounded by wildlife
Perhaps the throughway
Is no different than living
It is to stay in the wilderness
With your marriage, with your life
To rise with the sun
And greet what comes
If your partner does the same
You may still be wandering
together at 83
By chance to rise
By choice to greet
By choice to rise
By chance to greet
The chapel of renewal
found in the dance with both
Blessed be the choice & chance
May we rise and greet what comes
