Undiluted

When you left

You left no forwarding address

No new hometown name

When you left

You left without saying goodbye

Without saying why

When you left

You left without notice

Without saying you’d return

Perhaps this was your only way

Your only way to leave

To leave without any words,

to carry the unspoken with you

as if then you haven’t left,

haven’t left anything behind—

All that was shared,

All that was loved,

All that was meaningful

you have taken with you

Undiluted

And I have it all too

Undiluted

As if we still swim together

in the same lake as before

Just on different shores now

even though I don’t see you

Even though I don’t know

where you have gone

In the nowhere & everywhere

Now in the quiet, underwater

I can hear your knock-knock

on my heart,

Just as clearly

And I hope

you can still hear mine
