Mountain Flute

Mountain Flute

Beneath the babbling

Of my mind and snowmelt creek

I hear a familiar tapping

Fluid notes of what I seek

Through the thicketing

Of my heart and underbrush

I notice an alpine silencing

A song of vertical rush

Between the density

Of my body and granite rocks

I feel a welcomed resonance

Tones of my bones & stones

Beyond the vastness

Of my spirit and cirrus sky

I sense an inner calling

Music of the forest high

Oh mountain flute

Play your songs for me

Fill me with timeless longing

To rest here awhile with thee

Oh mountain flute

Sing to me your deja vu

Still me with a mystic knowing

To return again & see anew

Blessed be the calling of the mountains

**inspired by St. Francis of Assisi prayer “lord, make me an instrument of your peace”
