Soupness

Thank you for the soupness

Offered here to the community

I felt the ingredients of kindness

Carefully measured in vegan fluidity

I could have made my own

Or taken some out of the freezer

Or brought the take out home

Or wrestled with a crowd pleaser

Yet the need to feed my crew

EVERY single night of the week

Has slowly simmered to brew

As a reduction sauce for me to tweak

I could have served many bowls

To unhoused, as I often would

I could have brought casseroles

On a meal train, as I often should

Yet to RECEIVE a bowl of soupness

Made with love by another

Simply for being in my humanness

Was a sacred gift like no other

“Better to give than to receive”

May be the cliche, the right way

Yet to receive in blessed humility

To nourish bodies in community

Feeds the need for a Soulful Way

Thank you for the soupness

Offered in community for all to nestle

Here on a given Friday, the paperness

Of bowl in my hands, became a sacred vessel

Feeling on my upturned palms, warmness

I touched into belonging at the Universal Table

In Gratitude, Blessed be.
