April Fools

Misty mornings elusive shine

Brightness in the chilly shoulders of day

To put on something daring ? Forge alone.

Or to slink under wraps,

Curl into comforts of familiar?

April fools me in how to proceed

awash with new waves of uncertainty

Skin to skin feeling my way

with thermal touch,

air to air breathing my way

with cold’s clutch

Foggy mornings confusing invitation

To delight in all things revealing themselves—

beauty found only through surrender

to walking with the mysterious unknown

Feeling the brisk of uncomfortable

Seeing the exquisite edges of unknowable
