Convergence
Entering the expansive places
Human action may form incursions
Connecting into green spaces
As non-native species Invasions
By nature of our inquiring creature
Curiosity drives Intersections
With nature, what is the future?
Choices of opposing directions
We can choose to join the dance
Like two rivers in the Confluence
With extrospection of Circumstance
Or dam, resisting our interdependence
In noticing our out of balance days
Where excursions are overstays
In the science of climate underlays
May Creativity be our turning new ways
Consequences of our human choices
Reveal themselves in Convergence zones**
At the threshold of our earth time
May We stand in humility of Eco-tones
Blessed be our interdependence
May our creativity & humility
guide us in convergent ways
** convergence zone is an atmospheric region where two prevailing winds interact. The air and water flow conditions encourage accumulation, including not only precipitation but also the amassing of discarded plastics in the ocean.
this poem is inspired by the Convergence Zone exhibit at the Anderson gallery at Stanford University— The artworks in this exhibition bring together reflections on the human impact on bodies of water and how the planet responds with a spectrum of natural consequences.
