There will be meaning

To be made, cultivated

in choices of attention

In the gifts of insight

What comes in, unsuspected

Deliverance from grip of grief

What grows out, unexpected

Tomorrows change of belief

Not that loss, suffering

Provided here on purpose,

Not that God, Universe

Maligns, punishes in doses

Yet there will be meaning

Somewhere deep inside you

Gratitude, surprise evolution

Perspective, gifts of purview

If someone says “it’s meant to be”

“Everything happens for a reason”

“It’s God’s will” or

“You have an angel in heaven”

They may never had their child die

Or seen the soldier at their door

Never lived through your suffering

Or had a horrific moment make

the After out of the Before

Yet all humans WILL make

meaning of our finite, fleeting days

Some of which you may NOT agree

Practice kindness to yourSelf

Listen for the love meant underneath
